In this week’s episode, the contestants boarded a plane headed for Thailand where language barriers, both between cultures and between teammates, escalated tensions even further, the eliminations becoming “even more personal” according to one contestant, Jenna. Just seconds after stepping outside of the airport, the six remaining contestants were paired off and as their next challenge awaited them. Jetlagged and exhausted, each team made their way through the crowded Thai markets and rice fields, shaving coconuts, attempting to communicate with locals, and any other task that stood in their way. Throughout the physically and mentally grueling afternoon, it was Nookie and John who prevailed, earning them a leg up in the cooking challenge.
For the cooking challenge, each team took over a street cart in which they sold authentic Thai dishes to local crowds. The team who earned the most money by the end of the night was the winner. John and Nookie, since winning the earlier challenge, were allowed twice the amount of spending money, as well as the opportunity to make two dishes rather than one. They used this chance to pair their dish with a sweetened drink, a decision that, while ranking high in originality, fell flat in taste, since Nookie admitted unashamedly to watering down the drink in order to make it last longer. However, despite questionable tastes, and perhaps similarly questionable morals, Nookie and John ended up with the highest earnings, keeping them safe from another elimination. Avery and Jenna, while making a green papaya salad that was a unanimous favorite both with the locals and judges alike, were unable to surpass Nookie and John’s sale success and were forced into potential elimination. In a voting tie between Liz and Jenna, Jenna’s quote held firm and the elimination really did become more personal when John’s deciding vote sent Jenna to pack her bags and say her farewells.
